On 21 July 2026, Kaynardzha, Bulgaria, commemorated the 252nd anniversary of the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca, bringing together the local community, visitors, and partners to celebrate the enduring values of peace and dialogue. The programme featured a range of community activities, including tree planting and creative workshops for children, while also marking an important milestone with the installation of the European Heritage Label plaque at the Kaynardzha Visitor Centre.
The commemorative programme encouraged participation across generations through activities that highlighted the importance of local heritage, active citizenship, and a culture of peace. Tree planting symbolised a shared commitment to future generations, while children’s drawing activities offered younger participants an opportunity to express their vision of peace through creativity.
A particularly significant moment of the celebration was the installation of the European Heritage Label plaque at the Kaynardzha Visitor Centre. The plaque underlines Kaynardzha’s role within the European Heritage Label transnational site Places of Peace, which alongside integrates 6 other sites in 5 countries and strengthens the visibility of their contribution to Europe’s common history and the promotion of peace.
