The Association for the Promotion of Altranstädt Castle in Germany, a founding member of ENPP, had the initiative to plant a “Luther tree” in the gardens of that Castle, with the support of the Markranstädt Municipality to which this castle located 15 Kms far from the city of Leipzig belongs.

The plantation of this tree is deeply related to the content of the Altranstädt Convention signed on August 31, 1707 between King Charles XII of Sweden and Joseph I of the Holy Roman Empire which restored and stabilized Lutheranism in that region after the Counter-Reformation period.
